Stage 01: Begin with Clarity
Design Clarity Session
Most projects begin with a Design Clarity Session.
This initial in-home consultation allows me to explore your home, discuss possibilities and determine the appropriate next stage for your project.
During this session we explore spatial challenges, discuss possibilities and establish a clear understanding of the project’s priorities and direction.
Following the session, I will outline the recommended design phase and prepare a proposal, should you wish to proceed.
This stage allows decisions to be approached thoughtfully before committing to design development.
You are most welcome to call for a brief chat regarding your project before booking a Design Clarity Session
Investment: $500 per session
Stage 02: Develop the Direction
Spatial Design
This stage establishes the overarching direction for the project, translating early discussions into a clear and cohesive design response.
Spatial planning is explored in depth to ensure layout decisions support both daily living and long-term intention. Materiality, tone, and architectural detailing are considered carefully, forming a unified framework before detailed documentation begins.
This phase typically includes:
Conceptual spatial planning and layout development
Design direction and material exploration
Preliminary cabinetry concepts
Fixtures and fittings guidance
Curated visual presentation to communicate overall intent
By the conclusion of this stage, the project has a defined creative direction: considered, coherent and ready to be refined.
Stage 03: Refine & Document
Detailed Design & Documentation
A comprehensive design phase for residential renovations requiring thoughtful development and construction-ready documentation.
At this stage, every decision is determined before works commence, ensuring the build proceeds with confidence and precision.
This phase typically includes:
Spatial refinement and detailed planning
Custom cabinetry design
Material and finish schedules
Fixtures and fittings specification
Construction documentation suitable for tender and build
Tender coordination
Strategic site consultations to protect design intent
The result is a thoroughly considered design, documented with care, and ready for implementation.
Stage 04: Protect the Vision
Creative Direction During Construction
Once construction begins, strategic involvement ensures the integrity of the design is maintained.
While the registered builder oversees delivery and compliance, I remain engaged at key stages to clarify intent, review critical details, and support informed decision-making as the project unfolds.
This stage may include:
Scheduled site visits at pivotal milestones
Review of cabinetry and material implementation
Clarification of design documentation as required
Guidance on site-based selections or refinements
Collaboration with builder and trades to maintain design coherence
The focus remains on safeguarding the original vision; ensuring the finished outcome reflects the considered direction established earlier in the process.
Additional Services
Builder Selection & Tender Assessment
Finding the right builder is just as important as the design itself.
One of the biggest challenges homeowners face is knowing where to begin. Many clients don't have a builder in mind, while others receive recommendations from friends or search online without knowing whether those builders are experienced in the type of renovation they are planning. Choosing the wrong builder can lead to unnecessary stress, delays and unexpected costs.
The Grounded Room can assist by identifying builders who are well suited to your particular project, coordinating the tender process and providing an independent assessment of the quotations received.
1. Builder Selection
If you don't already have builders in mind, I can narrow down suitably qualified builders whose experience aligns with the scope and complexity of your renovation. Rather than approaching builders at random, I identify professionals more likely to be the right fit for your project.
2. Tender Coordination
I prepare the documentation required for quoting and issue it to the selected builders. During the tender period, I respond to questions, provide clarification where required, and ensure each builder is pricing the same scope of work.
3. Tender Assessment
Once quotations are received, each submission is carefully reviewed and compared, including:
Price
Clarity and comprehensiveness of the quotation
Inclusions and exclusions
Prime Cost Items and Provisional Sums
Construction programme
Builder registration and Certificates of Currency
Estimated owner-supplied costs
Overall value
4. Recommendation
You receive a comprehensive Tender Assessment & Recommendation Report, together with a meeting to discuss the findings and my professional recommendation.
As every renovation is different, from a single bathroom and kitchen remodel to a full multi-storey build. Pricing for this service is tailored to the scope of your project. Get in touch for an obligation free quote.
Interior Finishes & Fixtures Selection
A stand alone service for homeowners and builders’ clients.
Whether you're a homeowner renovating your home or a builder wanting to provide your clients with professional guidance throughout the selections process, The Grounded Room offers expert assistance with the selection and coordination of interior finishes and fixtures.
While builders focus on delivering the construction, and cabinet makers prepare the joinery, clients are often left to navigate hundreds of product decisions on their own. The Grounded Room works alongside builders and their clients to simplify the selections process, ensuring every finish and fixture has been carefully considered and works together to create a cohesive and functional interior.
Professional guidance at this stage of a project helps ensure selections are coordinated before construction, reducing uncertainty, minimising costly changes and creating a more streamlined building process.
For homeowners, this means confidence that every selection complements their home, lifestyle and budget. For builders, it provides clients with access to an independent design professional who can guide the selections process, minimise decision fatigue and help keep projects moving efficiently.
